Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: D4 & A5 (Sacral & Third Eye Chakras)

Weight 1.09 kilos (2 lb 7 oz).  Size 18 x 8.5 cm (7 x 3 ¼ inches)

This is a beautifully proportioned superior quality antique bowl with two excellent voices… a middle octave D4 (300Hz) fundamental with a nice sustain when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave A5 (862Hz) harmonic with a wooden ringer.

This rare 19th Century Lingam Singing Bowl is quite heavy for its size and has thick even walls and a grooved lip. The Lingam at its centre is surrounded and defined by two sets of circles, and there is a matching navel or yoni underneath.  A now barely visible decorative band of tiny dots encircles the outer rim.

It benefits from an inscription, hallway down the outer wall, which is a fair indication of the high esteem in which this bowl was held by a former keeper.  Very few bowls carry inscriptions.

It is in excellent structural condition, clean and stain-free except for some black marks surrounding the navel underneath; perhaps resulting from the bowl being placed on a gas burner in order to heat up its contents.  They could be removed if desired, but doing so would spoil the lovely aged patina acquired over its lifetime.

This high-quality antique bowl has a great voice and the look and feel of antiquity!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
