Antique Jambati Singing Bowl. Note F2 (Heart Chakra)

5.37 kilos (11 lb 14 oz).  38 x 15.5 cm (15 x 6 inches)

This massive multi-harmonic antique singing bowl has a diameter of 15 inches, weighs 5.37 kilos, and is the heaviest and the second largest in my collection.  Antique Jambati bowls approaching anything like this size are extremely rare and sought after for their beautiful and incredibly low resonant, pulsating, and loud voices.  This one is no exception and has a seemingly endless sustain.

This wonderfully majestic bowl has a pulsating low, close to perfect pitch, second octave F2 fundamental (85Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede or wooden ringer.  If desired the rim note will gradually develop into a stunning middle C4 (259Hz).  This bowl has a massive sustain when struck or after playing around the rim, and its vibrant energy is such that it will readily produce a low OM with a heavy suede ringer.  This bowl is really too heavy to hold and is best placed on a cushion for playing.

This impressive singing bowl is believed to date from the early 20th century and has an honest simplicity of form without any decorative artwork.  However, subtle mottled markings inside and out, now worn smooth, provides ample attractive surface interest.   It is clean and stain-free, and structurally sound with a deep golden bronze colour.

A fabulous large Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a striker and 2 ringers are included in the price.

Listen: (3 struck notes and 1 played note with a suede ringer)
