Rare Antique Bronze Ceremonial Offering Plate

Diameter: 13 ½ x 2 inches (33.5 x 5 cm)  Weight: 2 lb 15 ¾ oz (1.35 kilos)

This rare hand-forged antique Ceremonial Offering Plate (circa 1800) was sourced in Nepal, and features an attractive scalloped edge decorated alternately with suns and a feather motif.  There is a geometric lotus design at its centre, surrounded by two bands of suns set within concentric circles.  The suns (punched dots within circles) are similar to those found on some 18th and 19thcentury Thadobati and Manipuri singing bowls.

The general condition and appearance of this interesting ceremonial item is good, but there is a fine, stable, and barely visible, crack where two scallops meet that extends down the side (the price has been reduced to reflect this).  It is clean and stain-free, and has attractive hammer markings and a nice golden bronze colour.   The original purpose of this antique plate is unknown.  It would make a nice display item, divination plate, or container for a collection of ceremonial or ritual objects.
