Small Manipuri Singing Bowl – Concert Pitch D4 with G#5 Harmonic

Availability: In Stock
Price: £0.00

Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl.  D4 & G#5 Notes (Sacral & Throat Chakras)
Weight 12 ½ oz (358g).   14.5 x 5 cm (approx. 5 ¾ x 2 inches)

This little antique Manipuri Singing Bowls has some really interesting markings and a concert pitch voice.

The fundamental note is a virtually concert pitch mid octave D.  The note is the same whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  However, the rim note changes to a high G#5 if a wooden ringer is used.  Both notes will sing together if you start the bowl off with the wooden end of the ringer and then quickly switch to the suede…a very nice sound.

This old bowl is well made and has bags of character.  The decorative markings include two circles of sun motifs (now rather faint) on the inside floor, and all around the rim.  There are a pair of incised lines high up on the inside wall, and several more on the outside.

The outer surface of the bowl is particularly interesting as it contains a series of slanting sacred or magical marks or gashes in random groups of 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.  The lower part of the wall is also decorated with a fringe of vertical gashes.

This fascinating bowl is in very nice condition.  It has seen a lot of use in its lifetime but it is structurally sound and all of its features remain well defined with the exception of those on the inside floor of the basin.  It has an attractive golden colour and is a delight to look at, hold, and play.

A small Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
