Exceptional Quality Extra-Thick Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl –

Availability: In Stock

Antique Tibetan Thadobati Singing Bowl.  G Note (Throat Chakra)
Weight 2 lb 9 ¾ oz (1.18 kilos).   19 x 9 cm (approx. 7 ½ x 3 ½ inches)

This is a large and exceptionally fine quality 19th century Thadobati Singing Bowl, and one of the very best of its type in our collection.

This high-sided and flat-bottomed old bowl has notably extra-thick walls, and a generous and attractive grooved lip.  It has a decorative band of dots high up close to the rim on the outer wall, and an incised band, now faint, halfway down.  The circles in the centre of the basin have been worn down over time and are now barely visible.

This handsome bowl has a lovely antique gold colour and is in good condition for its age.  It is extremely pleasant to hold and is rock-solid on the palm of the hand.

This antique bowl is very responsive and quick to sing, and has a very pure voice…a mid octave G when stuck with a padded mallet or played around the rim.  It also has some talking ability.

A silk brocade Tibetan bowl cushion and a teak and suede ringer are included in the price.

Listen: (2 struck notes and 1 played note)

Note:  There is a fine hairline crack that loosely follows along a quarter of one of the grooves in the lip.  I didn't notice it at first.  It's quite shallow and does not penetrate deeply into the lip which is solid and strong, but I have reduced the price to reflect this cosmetic issue.  It has absolutely no impact on the sound which is particularly sweet.
