Antique Mask from Timor (Indonesia)

This is a superb antique ceremonial mask from Timor with fine portrait-like features and distinctive tribal headdress or tattoo-like markings on the forehead.  Believed to be 19^th Century, it probably represents a known tribal ancestor.  It is very well carved in a dense hardwood.  It has an attractive black and brown patina and the look and feel of considerable age and use, and is in very good condition.

This powerful mask conveys a real sense of the person it represents, and is one of our personal favourites.
