Antique Manipuri Singing & Talking Bowl – C#3 & F4 Notes

Availability: In Stock

Antique Manipuri Singing & Talking Bowl.  D & F Notes (Sacral & Heart Chakras)
Weight 2 lb 7 ½ oz (975g).   22.5 x 8 cm (approx. 8 ¼ x 3 ¼ inches)

Tibetan Singing BowlThis is a large and versatile multi-harmonic antique Manipuri Singing Bowl with a good talking voice and some fountain ability.

The fundamental (struck) note is a third octave C# accompanied by a mid octave G# harmonic overtone.  The rim note is a good third octave D when played with a suede ringer, but a mid octave G# if a wooden one is used.

This bowl is very responsive and easy to play and has an unusually good talking voice if filled with a little water and rocked back and forth after striking with a mallet or ringer.

At almost 1 kilo this is quite a heavy bowl for a Manipuri.  The circles that once decorated the centre of the basin have been worn away over the years and the bowl is now quite smooth inside and out, although the decorative banding below the outer rim is still present.  The bowl is structurally sound, clean, and pleasant to hold and to play.

A Tibetan brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.

Listen: (1 struck note and 2 played notes with suede and wooden ringers)
