Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl. Notes D4 & A5 (Sacral & Third Eye Chakras)

Weight 853 grams (1 lb 14 oz). Size 18 x 8 cm (7 x 3 ¼ inches)

This is a superior quality 19th century Thadobati Singing and Talking Bowl of medium size with beautifully forged walls, a sheered and grooved lip, and a flat bottom.    There are decorative lines and tiny dots encircling the rim, lines around the middle of the outer wall, and two sets of circles at its centre.  The exterior wall is particularly attractive; the top half having been polished smooth in contrast to the myriad of darker tiny hammer marks below.

The fundamental note is middle D4 (296Hz) that is close to concert pitch when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave A5 (856Hz) with a wooden ringer.

This bowl also has talking abilities.  When struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a little water inside it becomes a talking bowl and produces a variety of other-worldly sounds when rocked back and forth.  Talking bowls are used by shaman as a gateway to other dimensions, to induce trance states, and to contact deities and ancestors.

It is in excellent structural condition, clean and virtually stain-free, but with a small patch of copper oxidization inside.  It has a very attractive golden bronze colour.

A very nice example of a good quality Thadobati Singing and Talking bowl!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.

Listen: (3 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede ringer then wood).
