Antique Remuna-Lingam. Notes F#3 & C#5 & C6  (Heart & Root Chakras)

Weight 765 grams (1 lb 11 oz). Size 17 x 9.5 cm (6 ¾ x 3 ¾ inches)

This is a rare and rather pretty medium-size antique Remuna-Lingam Singing Bowl with a beautiful pulsating and perfect pitch third octave F#3 (184/5Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  However, the rim note is readily accompanied by a lovely C#5 (540Hz) harmonic and will eventually evolve into the C#5 if desired, depending on ringing speed and the pressure applied.  The rim note changes again to an exceptionally high sixth octave C6 (1042Hz) that's very close to perfect pitch with a wooden ringer.  There is also a degree of self-amplification.

This unusual Lingam Singing Bowl has the body and sonic characteristics of a Remuna bowl.  It has the classic Remuna form with its fine slightly globular wall, sheered lip, and decorative bands encircling the belly...but with the rare added feature of a lingam surrounded by circles at its centre, and a matching navel or yoni underneath.

It has been superbly crafted with the finest of walls and is light for its size. The smooth upper part of the outer wall contrasts nicely with the hammer-marks below.

Lingam bowls have a very distinctive sound, and Remuna bowls are renowned for their beautiful voices and ease of play.  This lovely bowl is exceptionally responsive and eager to play and combines the best of both worlds.

This bowl is believed to date from the late 18th or early 19th century.  It is in excellent structural condition, clean and stain-free.  It has a nice golden antique bronze colour and an aged patina.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
