Antique Lingam Medicine Singing Bowl. Notes G3 & C6 (Throat & Root Chakras)

Weight 826 grams (1 lb 13 oz).  Size 21 x 5 cm (8¼ x 2 inches)

This extremely rare Shaman’s Medicine Lingam Singing Bowl is believed to date from the 17th or possibly early 18thcentury.   Shallow bowls with extreme width to height ratios such as this are associated with shamanic medicinal preparations, marriage and healing rituals, and especially divination.

It is likely that the sonic properties of this bowl are secondary to its ritual functions. Nonetheless, it is capable of producing a powerful high sixth octave C6 (1042-1046Hz) that is close to perfect pitch when played around the rim with a wooden ringer.   The fundamental note is a third octave G3/G#3 (199 - 208Hz) when struck with a padded mallet.  There is also a fifth octave D5 (576-590Hz) harmonic.

This fascinating medicinal and divination bowl has a sheered lip, a lingam defined and surrounded by several sets of circles at its centre, and a nice naval or yoni underneath.

It is in excellent structural condition, free of stains and blemishes, and has a deep antique golden bronze colour and aged patina.

Shaman ritual bowls of any type are few and far between, and lingams are incredibly rare.  This bowl has the look and feel of great antiquity, and a unique charismatic presence that is hard to describe.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.
