Antique Jambati Bowl. Notes F2 & C4 (Heart & Root Chakras)

Weight 2.77 kilos (6 lb 1 ¾ oz).  Size 31 x 15 cm (12 ¼ x 6 inches)

This magnificent and massive antique Jambati Singing Bowl is one of the finest specimens I have encountered in over 35 years of collecting.  It has a beautiful deep full-bodied form, weights 2.77 kilos (over 6 pounds), has a huge diameter of 12 ¼ inches (31 cm), and a stunning perfect concert pitch F2 (88Hz) fundamental.   It was recently sourced in the Indian Himalayas, and everything about this superior quality antique bowl, including its excellent state of preservation, suggests that it was commissioned for a temple or monastery.

The fundamental note is a glorious perfect pitch low second octave F2 (88Hz) with a huge sustain when hand-held and struck with a padded mallet.  The F2 fundamental is accompanied by a lovely C4 harmonic (266Hz) with a suede ringer.   If played with a wooden ringer the note changes to the C4.  Its vibrant energy will also produce the OM sound.  It is extremely responsive and easy to play.

This glorious bowl dates from the 1800s.  It has sensually smooth high walls, a rounded bottom, and a sheered slightly triangulated lip, faint circles at its centre, and decorative incised bands encircling the outer rim.  It is in excellent structural condition, free of stains and blemishes, and has a lovely golden bronze colour.  The dark area at the front of the bowl is a reflection of my sweater, not a stain.

It is extremely difficult nowadays to find any antique bowl over 11 inches, and they are highly sought-after by antique dealers and collectors alike.  A bowl of this type, size, quality and condition seldom comes to market.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a fabulous large bowl with a wonderful voice.

A large Tibetan silk brocaded bowl cushion, padded striker, and two ringers are all included in the price.

Listen: (3 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede then wood ringer)
