Unusual Pot-Shaped Singing Bowl – Inscription & Unique Tone

Availability: In Stock
Price: £0.00

Unusual Antique Himalayan Singing Bowl.   C Note (Root Chakra)
Weight 1 lb 13 ½ oz (835g).   17.5 x 9.5 cm (approx. 6 ¾ x 3 ¾ inches)

This is a very unusual and well-made pot-shaped antique singing bowl with a unique sound.  Its bulbous walls are divided into three sections each defined by an incised line.  The upper two parts are polished while the low section has a matt finish.  There are two incised bands forming a collar directly under the lip, below which is a highly decorative engraved frieze of a repeating stylized motif of a butterfly in profile.  There are 5 butterflies in total separated by two rising suns on opposing sides of the bowl.   It has a flat grooved lip that extends outwards, and there are bold concentric circles on the inside floor.  This interesting bowl also benefits from a small dot-punched inscription, and elsewhere a single engraved character.  The condition of this bowl is excellent…clean and stain-free.

The fundamental note is a mid octave C whether struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer…the latter producing a unique pulsating tone.   A double-ended teak and suede ringer is included in the price.

A highly unusual one-of-a-kind high-quality singing bowl with a unique sound.

Listen (2 struck notes and 1 played note)
