Antique Jambati Singing Bowl.  Note E4 (Solar Plexus Chakra)

Weight 1.06 kilos (2 lb 5 ¼ oz).  Size 20 x 8 cm (8 x 3 ¼ inches)

This rare singing bowl with its graciously curved form is believed to date from the 18thcentury.  It has an interesting folded and cut and slightly inward sloping triangulated lip encircled by a pair of decorative lines, and there are circles at its centre.  It also benefits from a small inscription on the outer wall; a fair indication of the high esteem in which this antique bowl was held by a former keeper.

The fundamental note is a good middle E (335-7Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a ringer.

The structural condition of this bowl is fine although it clearly shows signs of long use and age.  There is a very tiny nick in the rim or playing edge that produces a noticeable click with a wooden ringer, but is inaudible when a suede ringer is employed.  The rim note is the same E4 regardless of the ringer used, so the nick is not an issue.  However, I have reduced the price to take this largely cosmetic issue into account.

This rare and unusual singing bowl has bags of character and the look and feel of great antiquity.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl mat and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.

Listen: (3 struck notes and 1 played note)
