Antique Jambati Singing Bowl.  Notes E2/Eb2 & Bb3 (Solar Plexus & Crown Chakras)

Weight 2.36 kilos (5 lb 3 oz).  Size 32 x 14 cm (12 ½ x 5.5 inches)

This is a huge and handsome Antique Jambati Singing Bowl has a low second octave E2/Eb2 (79-80Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer, when it is sometimes accompanied by a Bb3 (231Hz) harmonic.  The rim note changes to a middle octave A4 (444Hz) with a wooden ringer.  This wonderful antique bowl has lots of vibrant energy and is also capable of producing a fabulous vibrant OM sound.

This bowl has been expertly forged and has a particularly attractive full-bodied form with a plain sheered lip.  There are decorative circles at its centre and a single incised line forming a collar around the outer rim.  Its finely hammered walls make it relatively light for its size.

Antique Jambati Singing Bowls of this exceptional size and quality are now virtually impossible to find in the Himalayas, and this particularly beautiful example has a great voice and is structurally sound* and virtually free of stains inside and out…with one exception.

At some stage in its long life birds have perched on it rim, perhaps to peck at grain inside the basin, and have left their trademark poop or guano in runs around about 20% of the outer wall.  I believe it would be possible to remove it with a little effort, but I leave that to its next lucky keeper to decide.  Personally, I think it lends character and is part of the bowl’s life story.

A magnificent and huge 19th Century Jambati Singing Bowl, and a truly rare find!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a ringer are all included in the price.

Footnote:  As I returned this Jambati to my bowl store I noticed a fine 1cm cut halfway down the wall that I had missed, despite previously spending an hour or more playing and closely examining and evaluating it for this listing. It is an unfortunate but tiny cosmetic issue with no apparent discernable imapact on the bowl's excellent sound qualuty, but none-the-less I feel warrants a discount.

Listen: ( 2 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede ringer then wood).
