3 Antique Bronze Temple Shrine Bells

Size: 4 ¼, 3 ½, 3 ¼ inches (11, 9, 8 cm). Weight: 6, 7, 6 ½ oz (171, 192, 187 grams)

These three tiny antique bronze bells or ghanta are of a type commonly found adorning small roadside shrines, or a shrine within a Buddhist or Hindu Temple.

There is normally a dozen or more bells threaded along a brass bar, all similar in size but slightly different because they are individually cast, for worshipers to brush with their hand and ring in passing. These have been in my collection for 40 years but might have hung over or beside a shrine for hundreds of years and been rung daily by countless worshipers.

Shrine bells are occasionally renewed as their rings wear thin, and sometimes a shrine might be destroyed or abandoned and their bells end up in an antique shop.

These old bronze bells are clean and in particularly good condition, and they all ring sweetly.

Antique bronze shrine bells like this are few and far between, and are highly prized by religious practitioners, shaman, yogis, healers and sound therapists, as well as bell collectors.

When you buy, handle, and ring these antique bells you can be confident that they are genuine and revered holy instruments that have played an important part announcing the arrival of a devotee at a shrine for at least 100 years. They are charming and beautiful objects, with the look and feel of antiquity…but perhaps more importantly, when rung one can sense the spiritual energy, power and purpose with which it is imbued, and the present ineffably connects to the past.
