Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl. Notes Bb3 & F5 (Crown & Heart Chakras)

Weight 934 grams (2 lb 1 oz). Size 18.5 x 9 cm (7 ¼ x 3 ½ inches)

This attractive 19th century Thadobati Singing Bowl has a nice third octave Bb3 (239Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave F5 (702Hz) with a wooden ringer.  It is a very responsive bowl and easy to play.

It has a typical Thadobati high-sided wall and gently curved wall, a sheered and grooved lip, and flat bottom.  There are circles at its centre, and 2 decorative bands of tiny cuts encircling the outer rim.   A pair of finely incised lines encircle the outer wall about a third of the way down, separating the smooth surface above from the more textured hammered surface below.

This bowl is in excellent structural condition, clean and stain-free, with a lovely bright golden bronze colour.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.

Listen: (3 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede ringer then wood).
