Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl.   Notes: F3 & B5 (Heart & Crown Chakras)

Weight 2 lb 1 oz. (936 grams).   Size 20.5 x 9 cm (8 x 3 ½ inches)

This is a nice quality 8” Thadobati Singing Bowl with an attractive and interesting bell-like F3 fundamental (178Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave B5 (999Hz) with a wooden ringer.

This bowl is relatively light for its size and is typical of the Thadobati form...having a relatively straight wall, grooved lip and flat bottom. It’s an older bowl, probably early 19th century, and the circles at its centre have been worn away with the passage of time.  The two bands of tiny cuts that once formed a decorative collar, and the circles around the midpoint of the outer wall are also quite faint...evidence of long service and ritual cleaning.

The structural condition of this bowls is good, and it is clean and free of stains and blemishes but with small patches of copper oxidization inside.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.

A very nice example of this antique bowl form!

Listen: (3 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede ringer then wood)
