Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Note: E4/F4 (Solar Plexus/Heart Chakras)

Weight 968 grams (2 lb 2 oz).  Size 20 x 8.5 cm (8 x 3 ¼ inches)

This is a very nice 18th Century Lingam Singing Bowl with a fabulous wide, grooved, and inward facing triangulated lip that has been folded back and cut, leaving a deeply incised and slightly irregular decorative line encircling the outer rim.  This type of construction is only found in bowls made prior to the mid 1800s, although other forms of lip and rim construction are also seen.  This particular type of construction immediately indicates an old bowl.

This lovely bowl has a gracefully curved wall and a slightly lower profile than usual, and the wide boldly grooved lip and rim are attractive stand-out features.  There is a large lingam surrounded by circles at its centre, with a matching navel or yoni underneath.  There are also some decorative bands encircling the lower outer wall.

The fundamental note is a middle E4 (339Hz) that fluctuates to F4 (342Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fabulous high fifth octave B5 (1001Hz) with a wooden ringer.

It is in excellent structural, clean and free of stains, and has the rich patina of antiquity.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.

Listen: (4 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede ringer then wood)
