Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes Eb4 & A5 (Solar Plexus & Third Eye Chakras)

Weight 905 grams (1 lb 1 5 ¾ oz).  Size 17.5 x 9.5 cm (6 ¾ x 3 ¾ inches)

This is a rare antique pot-shaped Lingam Singing Bowl with a middle Eb4 (317Hz) fundamental when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a powerful fifth octave A5 (903Hz) with a wooden ringer.  The A5 harmonic is sometimes quietly accompanied by the Eb4 fundamental droning in the background.  This bowl is self-amplifying, very responsive and easy to play.

It has a lovely globular shape with very fine smooth walls, a flanged lip, a large lingam at its centre surrounded by circles, and a matching yoni or navel underneath.  There are decorative bands encircling the outer rim and also around the belly.  It also has a tiny dot-punched character inscribed on the outer wall.

This interesting and unusual Lingam bowl is in excellent and clean condition.  Some tiny inclusions (dust or grits) in the molten bronze mixture bare evidence to the primitive conditions under which it was forged.  These can be seen as raised pimples on the bowl’s floor.  It has an attractive golden bronze colour.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.

Listrn: (3 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede then wood ringer)
