Antique Jambati Singing Bowl. Notes A2 & D5 (Third Eye & Sacral Chakras)

Weight 1.4 kilos (3 lb 1 ½ oz). Size 24 x 11 cm (9 ½ x 3 ¼ inches)

This large 2nd octave antique Jambati Singing Bowl has unusually finely beaten walls and is therefore light for its size.  Most low octave bowls tend to be very large and rather heavy to hold.  Weighing just 1.4 kilos this bowl is an exception that is comfortable to hold and play for an extended period.

The fundamental note is a low concert pitch second octave A2 (110Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  It has lots of vibrant energy and is capable of producing the sought-after OM sound. The rim note changes to a fifth octave D5 (600Hz) with a wooden ringer.

This antique bowl is structurally sound, clean and blemish free, but ritual cleaning has worn away the decorative circles at its centre and the bands encircling the outer rim.  Nonetheless it remains an attractive bowl with a remarkable voice.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.

Listen: (3 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede then wood ringer)
