Antique Bronze Temple Bell with Hanuman/Garuda Top

Size: 8 ¼  x 3 ½ inches (21 x 9 cm). Weight: 1 lb 8 oz (681 grams)

This is a rare example of an 18th Century bronze hand bell that was formerly used by several generations of priests on ritual and ceremonial occasions. The rung note is an excellent high seventh octave D7 (2379Hz).

The top of this bell features two popular back-to-back praying Hindu Gods…the mythical Garuda Bird with his wings outspread, and Hanuman the monkey God.

This bell was individually cast by the lost wax method and is therefore a unique one-off item.  It dates from the 18th Century and is in good structural condition, with much of the details still reasonably well defined.  However there is also a considerable amount of wear to the figures which have been worn smooth through centuries of daily ringing. This type of wear adds to a bell’s authenticity and desirability.   It was sourced in Nepal.

Antique bronze Temple Bells of this type and quality are few and far between, and are highly prized by religious practitioners, shaman, yogis, healers and sound therapists, as well as bell collectors.

When you buy, handle, and ring this antique ritual bell you can be confident that it is a genuine and revered holy instrument that has played an important part in countless sacred rituals and ceremonies for at least 100 years. It is a fascinating and beautiful object in its own right, with the look and feel of antiquity…but perhaps more interestingly, when it is rung one can sense the spiritual energy, power and purpose with which it is imbued, and the present ineffably connects to the past.
