Old Jambati Singing Bowl. Note D2 (Sacral Chakra)

3.72 kilos (8 lb 3 oz).  35 x 15 cm (13 ¾ x 6 inches)

This majestic Jambati Singing bowl has a huge diameter of 13 ¾ inches, weighs 3.72 kilos, and is one of the largest in my collection. Old Jambati bowls approaching anything like this size are extremely uncommon and sought after for their beautiful low resonant notes, loud voices and long sustains; in this instance approximately 1 ½ minutes.

This large bowl has a fabulous low pulsating perfect pitch second octave D2 fundamental (74.6Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  This is a multi-harmonic singing bowl and the struck and played notes, with suede or wood, are often accompanied by other harmonics, among which are A3 (216Hz) and G#4 (425Hz).  With practice and/or with different ringers it is possible to isolate each harmonic.

This very heavy bowl is best placed on a cushion for playing, and will be supplied with a large Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion.

This impressive Jambati is believed to date from the first half of the 20th century, it’s difficult to say for sure, but it has an honest simplicity of form as is often the case with exceptionally large bowls.

The hammer markings on the outer wall are a particularly attractive feature, but it is without any decorative artwork.  It is clean, stain-free and structurally sound, with a lovely bright golden bronze colour inside and out.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a ringer are all included in the price.

Listen: ( 2 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede ringer then wood).
