Antique Bronze Ritual Temple Bell with Garuda Top

Size: 8 ¾ x 3 ¾ inches (22.5 x 9.5 cm). Weight: 1 lb 4 ½ oz (584 grams)

This rare antique Ritual Temple Bell or Ghanta comes from my own personal collection, and was originally selected for its superb figurative representation of a crowned Garuda (Lord Vishnu’s mount) holding a lotus bud, as well as for its sound and form.   It was sourced in Nepal and dates from the 18th or 19th century. It was cast in bronze by the lost wax method and hand-finished, and is therefore totally unique. The rung note is an evocative 7th octave D (2,368Hz) with a good sustain.

Originally belonging to a Hindu priest, temple, or shrine, antique bronze ritual hand bells of this type, quality, and condition are few and far between, and are highly prized by religious practitioners, shaman, yogis, healers and sound therapists, as well as serious collectors.

When you buy, handle, and ring this antique ritual bell you can be confident that it is a genuine and revered holy instrument that has played an important part in countless sacred rituals and ceremonies for at least 100 years. It is a fascinating and beautiful object in its own right, with the look and feel of antiquity…but perhaps more importantly, when it is rung one can sense the spiritual energy, power and purpose with which it is imbued, and the present ineffably connects to the past.
