Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl. Notes B3/C4 (Crown & Root Chakras)

Weight 1.42 kilos (3 lb 2 oz).  Size 20 x 11 cm (8 x 4 ½ inches)

This is a heavy large premium quality antique Thadobati Singing Bowl dating from around the early 1800s.   Its unusually thick wall would have been difficult to forge evenly and this is evident in the slight surface irregularities which add to its character and appeal.   It has the gently curved high-sided wall, flat bottom, and grooved lip typical of the Thadobati form.  This old bowl has seen long service and its decorative features, the circles at its centre and a band of tiny cuts around the outer rim, have been worn down with the passage of time.

The powerful fundamental is midway between B3 (253Hz) and C4 (256Hz) and the note subtly flickers between the two when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a ringer.  A fifth octave F#5 (734Hz) harmonic is also sometimes present.

This bowl is in excellent structural condition and features a very attractive polished bright golden bronze surface inside and out.

A Tibetan silk brocade cushion and a teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
