Antique Lingam Singing Bowl.  Note: C#3 & C#4 (Root Chakra)
Weight 1.64 kilos (3 lb 9 oz).   Size 25 x 11 cm (9 ¾ x 4 ¼ inches)

This is a rare and exceptionally large antique Lingam Singing Bowl with a gracefully curved form.  It has a finely beaten wall and a sheered lip, with a particularly nice lingam at its centre and a deep navel or yoni underneath.

The large lingam is surrounded and defined by a decorative circle of suns and several incised concentric circles bounded by another ring of suns.  The outer wall is also encircled by a band of suns from which downward facing triangles composed of suns are grouped at intervals around the bowl.  Decorative sun motifs are occasionally found on older Thadobati and Manipuri bowls, but virtually never on a Lingam, making this rare bowl quite exceptional and particularly interesting.

The fundamental note is a rather lovely perfect pitch third octave C# (137/8Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The note changes to a 4thoctave C# (407Hz) with a wooden ringer.

The structural condition of this exceptional and highly collectable antique Lingam bowl is excellent.  It has a wonderful aged patina and the look and feel of great antiquity.

A padded striker and double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
