Antique Bell-Shaped Singing Bowl.   Note:C#4 (Root Chakra)

Weight 1 lb 12 ½ oz. (811 grams).   Size 17.5 x 8.5 cm (7 x 3 inches)

This rare bell-shaped antique Jambati Singing Bowl has a flared lip, circles at its centre and decorative lines encircling the outer and inner rim.  It has a distinctive C#4 fundamental (272Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a penetrating fifth octave F# (745Hz) with a long sustain when a wooden ringer is employed.

The structural condition of this old bowl (circa 1800) is very good despite showing signs of long use inside, where the circles have been worn down by ritual cleaning. It’s an interesting bowl and has an attractive golden bronze colour.

A Tibetan silk brocade cushion and a double-ended teak and sued ringer are included in the price.

Listen: (2 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede ringer then wood).
