Antique Thadobati Singing Bowl.   Notes: E4 & F4 (Solar Plexus & Heart Chakras)

Weight 1 lb 15 ¼ oz. (890 grams).   Size 18 x 9 cm (7 x 3 ½ inches)

This lovely old Thadobati Singing Bowl probably dates from the early 18th century. It is clean and in good structural condition with many of its original decorative features intact, including circles at its centre and a band of suns (punched dots surrounded by circles) encircling the outer rim, but some are showing signs of wear as one might expect from a bowl that has seen long service.

The fundamental note is usually a middle E (339Hz) when struck with a padded mallet, although sometimes it sings F4 (342Hz).   The note is the same E4 when played around the rim…but gradually becomes F4 as the sound builds. It sings beautifully, whether struck or played around the rim.

This is an interesting and characterful old bowl in very nice condition for its age.

A Tibetan silk brocade cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.

Listen: (3 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede then wood ringer)
