Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl. Notes: E3 & B4 (Solar Plexus & Crown Chakras)

Weight 702 grams (1 lb 9 oz).  Size 20 x 7.5 cm (8 x 3 inches)

This bowl has a perfect pitch third octave E3 (165Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The E3 rim note is accompanied by, and gradually evolves into, a middle B4 (480Hz) depending upon the playing speed and pressure.  A wooden ringer will produce a B4 (485Hz).

This old bowl is believed to date from the early 1800s and has seen lot of use over the years.  Its walls have been worn sensually smooth, the circles at its centre, and the multiple bands that decorate the outer rim are now quite faint.

However, it remains a really lovely bowl…physically attractive, clean, nice to hold and play, and structurally sound.  It also has a lovely bright golden bronze colour.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.

Listen: (3 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede ringer then wood).
