Antique Lingam Singing Bowl.  G#4 (405Hz) Throat Chakra

Weight 3 lb 10 ½ oz (1.66 kilos).  20 x 10 cm (approx. 8 x 4 inches)

This fabulous and rare large antique Lingam Singing Bowl has one of the best voices in my collection whether struck or played.  It is incredibly responsive and begins to sing the moment the ringer touches the rim.  The fundamental note is a wonderfully pure middle octave G# (405Hz) with a subtle pulse that builds as the volume increases.

This is a very heavy Thadobati-style Lingam bowl, probably dating from the 19th century but possibly earlier, with a wide grooved rim and walls that are considerably thicker than the norm.  It would have been hard to forge.  It has an attractive mounded nipple-like lingam at its centre and a well-defined navel on the underside.  The decorative features are a fine border of dots below the outer rim and a large circle on the bottom…everything else having been worn away with use over the passage of time.

This stunning bowl is in good structural condition and is virtually free of stains and blemishes.  It has an unusual mustard gold bronze colour and the look and feel of antiquity.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and teak and sued ringer are included in the price.

PS: There are a couple of faint hairline surface cracks about an inch long, one on the inside of the bowl and one running parellel along the grooved lip.  They are ancient, completely stable, do not penetrate the wall and are of absolutely no consequences.  Many old bowls have minor cosmetic issues as one might expect.  I knew they were there when I acquired the bowl myself, and am only mentioning it here for completeness.  Make no mistake, this is a wonderful antique singing bowl!

Listen: (2 struck notes and 1 played note)
