Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes: D3 & G#4 (Sacral & Heart & Chakras)

Weight: 939 gram (3 lb 7 oz).  Size: 20 x 8.5 cm (8 x 3 ¼ inches)

This is a rare and exquisite example of a top quality 18th Century Lingam Singing Bowl.   Its lower-than-usual profile is beautifully proportioned.  It has smooth finely hammered and gracefully curved walls and a plain sheered lip.  The superb pointed Lingam at its centre is surrounded and defined by two sets of decorative circles, with a matching yoni or navel underneath.  There is evidence of ritual or magical marks surrounding the navel.

Several incised bands form a decorative collar around the outer rim, below which is an inscription; quite possibly the name of  the original owner.  Inscriptions are a fair indication of the high esteem in which a bowl has been held by a former keeper, and they always add interest and value to a bowl.

This rare and beautiful antique singing bowl has a lovely third octave D3 fundamental (145Hz) that is quite close to perfect pitch when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer. The rim note changes to a perfect pitch middle octave G#4 (416Hz) harmonic when played with a wooden ringer.  It is a responsive bowl and easy to play.

It is structurally sound, clean and stain-free with a wonderful old bronze colour and aged patina.

A really rare and special Lingam bowl with a superb voice and the look and feel of great antiquity.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
