Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Notes Eb4 & Bb5 (Solar Plexus & Crown Chakras)

Weight 778 grams (1 lb 11 oz).  17.5 x 8 cm (6 ¾ x 3 inches)

This medium-size antique Lingam Singing Bowl has walls so smooth it’s hard to believe they were actually forged with hammers.  This degree of refinement is the result of countless years of handling and ritual cleaning leaving the bowl's surface silky smooth and making it a sensual delight to hold and play.

The fundamental note is a nice middle octave Eb4 (319Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a fifth octave Bb5 (902Hz) with a wooden ringer.  The bowl is very responsive and easy to play.

This is a nicely proportioned bowl with a gently curved wall with a flat bottom and a sheered lip.  At its centre there is a perfect pointed lingam defined and surrounded by two sets of circles, and underneath a matching navel or yoni.  A decorative band of tiny dots encircles the rim.

This bowl is in perfect structural condition and free of stains and blemishes.  Underneath, surrounding the navel, a faint scattering of tiny inclusions add extra interest and bear witness to the primitive conditions in which this bowl was forged.    Inclusions are dust or grits in the molten metal mixture of copper and tin. They are usually found on the bottom of a bowl and manifest as tiny raised pimples beneath the surface.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a ringer are included in the price.

Listen: (3 struck notes and 2 played notes, suede ringer then wood).
