Antique Lingam Singing Bowl. Note: F3 (Heart Chakra)

Weight 984 grams (2 lb 2 ¾ oz).  Size 18 x 10 cm (7 ¼ x 4 inches)

This is a rare one-of-a-kind antique Remuna-Lingam Singing Bowl with a beautiful shape and a wonderful perfect concert pitch third octave F3 fundamental (175Hz) when stuck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note is the same F3 with additional subtle harmonics when played with a wooden ringer.

However, it is the decorative artwork that really sets this bowl apart from all the others.  It is extremely rare to find ANY decorative features on genuine antique lingam bowls beyond the circles surrounding the lingam at the centre and around the outer rim, or just occasionally on older bowls a band of small sun symbols in the form of a chain of dots surrounded by circles.

This bowl is distinguished by having a 1-inch decorative band of alternating (art-deco like) Sunrises and lotuses dot-punched into its surface below the outer rim.  A second lower band contains a (now faint) inscription, a sure indication of the importance and high esteem in which this bowl was held by a former keeper.

This fabulous bowl has the body and sonic characteristics of a superior quality Remuna with its fine gracefully curved walls, sheered grooved lip, and decorative bands encircling the rim and belly...but with the added lingam surrounded by circles at its centre, and a matching navel or yoni underneath.

Lingam bowls have a very distinctive sound, and Remuna bowls are renowned for their beautiful voices and ease of play.  This lovely bowl combines the best of both worlds, and with a diameter of 7 ¼ inches it is unusually large for this rare bowl form.  Its finely hammered walls also make it relatively light for its size.

This unique antique bowl is in excellent structural condition, clean and stain-free, with a nice golden bronze colour and an aged patina.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.

An exceptionally lovely example of this very rare bowl form, and one of the best bowls in my entire collection.
