Antique Lingam Singing Bowl.  Notes: F#4 & C#6 (Heart & Root Chakras)
Weight 630 grams (1 lb 6 ¼ oz).   Size 16.5 x 10 cm (6 ½ x 4 inches)

This is a rare antique globular Lingam Singing Bowl with a grooved inward-facing lip and decorative bands encircling the rim.  There is a pointed lingam at its centre and a deep yoni or navel underneath.  The outer surface is unusual in that the lower quarter shows hammer marks and is slightly darker than the larger upper part, which is perfectly smooth.

The fundamental note is a middle F#4 (379Hz) when struck with a padded mallet, while the rim note is an unusually high sixth octave C#6 (1120Hz) when played with a wooden ringer.   The unique shape of this old bowl results in a sound quality unlike any other.  I particularly like the way the sound appears to form inside the bowl…and once it gets going it becomes directional and escapes from its open mouth like a genie in a bottle!

The structural condition of this bowl is excellent, and it is clean and free of stains.

Globular bowls are extremely uncommon, and globular Lingams like this are among the rarest of all bowls.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a small striker, and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are all included in the price.

Listen: (3 struck notes and a played note with a wooden ringer)
