Antique Lingam Singing Bowl.  A3 & Eb5 (Third Eye & Solar Plexus Chakras)

Weight 831 grams (1 lb 13 ¼ oz).   Size 17.5 x 9 cm 7 x 3 ½ inches)

This recently sourced rare 19th century Lingam Singing Bowl is in its ‘as found’ condition. It seems the craftsman had difficulty forging it, as the walls are a little lumpy and uneven in places.  Nonetheless this antique lingam bowl has a surprisingly lovely voice.

The fundamental note is a rare and particularly nice third octave A (215Hz) when struck with a padded drumstick or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to fifth octave Eb (615-620Hz) if a wooden ringer is employed.

This is a high-sided Thadobati-shaped bowl with a sheered lip, a central lingam surrounded by faint circles, and a neat navel underneath.  There is a decorative border of dots around the outer rim.

The structure of this bowl is good.  It has an antique golden bronze colour and is clean on the outside but with some oxidization and a little pitting inside.

This characterful Lingam bowl has the look and feel of antiquity.

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion, a padded striker and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.

Listen: (2 struck notes and 1 played note)
