Antique Jambati Temple Bowl. Notes B2 & F5 (Crown & Heart Chakras)

Weight 3.35 kilos (7 lb 6 ¼ oz).  Size 34 x 17 cm (13 ¼ x 5 ¾ inches)

This magnificent and massive antique Jambati Singing Bowl is quite possibly the finest specimen I have encountered in over 35 years of collecting.  It has the most beautiful deep full-bodied shape, weights 3.35 kilos (almost 7 ½ pounds), has a huge diameter of 13 ¼ inches (34 cm), and a stunning perfect concert pitch B2 (123.5 Hz) fundamental with a huge sustain.   It was recently sourced in the Indian Himalayas, and everything about this superior quality antique bowl, including its excellent state of preservation, suggests that it was indeed commissioned for a temple or monastery.

The fundamental note is a beautiful perfect pitch low second octave B2 when struck with a padded mallet.   The B2 rim note is accompanied by a lovely F#4 harmonic (371Hz) with a suede ringer.  If played with a wooden ringer the note changes to a fifth octave F5 (711Hz).  It is extremely responsive and easy to play.

This glorious bowl dates from the 1800s.  It has sensually smooth high walls, a rounded bottom, and a wide triangulated lip with decorative incised bands encircling the outer rim.  It is in excellent structural condition, free of stains and blemishes, and has a lovely golden bronze colour.  The dark area at the front of the bowl is a reflection of my sweater, not a stain.

It is extremely difficult nowadays to find any antique bowl over about 11 inches, and they are highly sought-after by antique dealers and collectors alike.  A bowl of this type, size, quality and condition is virtually unheard of and rarely comes to market.

This is possibly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire the best of the best!

A large Tibetan silk brocaded bowl cushion, padded striker, and two ringers are all included in the price.
