Antique Manipuri Singing Bowl.  Notes: E3 & Bb4 (Solar Plexus & Crown Chakras)
Weight 756 grams (1 lb 10 ¾ oz).   Size 20 x 7 cm (8 x 2 ¾ inches)

This is a rare and fabulous early example of an antique Manipuri Singing Bowl.  It has an abundance of decorative artwork including sun motifs (dots surrounded by circles) set between incised parallel lines both inside the bowl and around the outer rim.  Another chain of suns can be seen lining the lip.  This bowl also features an interesting band of ritual cuts.

The fundamental note is a perfect pitch third octave E3 (165/6Hz) when struck with a padded mallet or played around the rim with a suede ringer.  The rim note changes to a nice forth octave Bb4 (478Hz) with a wooden ringer.  It is a responsive bowl and easy to play.

It is in excellent structural condition, clean and stain-free, with rim and walls worn sensually smooth with long use.  It has a particularly lovely aged patina inside.

A really lovely old Manipuri bowl!

A Tibetan silk brocade bowl cushion and a double-ended teak and suede ringer are included in the price.
